Welcome to My Birth and Baby!
Hello and welcome to My Birth and Baby!
I’m Ruth and I’m an independent (private) midwife, hypnobirthing teacher and IBCLC lactation consultant. I offer private midwifery care and breastfeeding support in Sussex and parts of Surrey.
My aim is to help you have a positive experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. I believe it’s a uniquely valuable, special and important time. I want to help you feel informed and supported to make the decisions that are right for you; and I’m here to provide practical help and support to give you the best chance of having the experiences that matter to you.
As a private, independent midwife, I provide unhurried, personalised midwifery care. This can include antenatal care from any point in your pregnancy and postnatal care, up to 4 weeks after the birth of your baby. However you intend to give birth to your baby (or babies!), having a midwife you know and trust can help you feel safe and confident in your choices.

Hypnobirthing and antenatal education
I offer hypnobirthing preparation and bespoke antenatal education in Worthing, Shoreham, Brighton and the surrounding areas of Sussex. You don’t need me to be your midwife. I provide all sessions on an individual basis for you and your partner/birth partner, in your own home and/or online via Zoom.

IBCLC lactation consultant
As an IBCLC lactation consultant, I can help if you’re experiencing difficulties with breastfeeding. You don’t need me to be your midwife. Although breastfeeding is natural, it can be far from easy. But most of the problems that women and their babies face can be overcome with practical help and support. It’s important not just because breastfeeding is good for you and your baby, but because once you’re past the challenges, many mums find breastfeeding is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding aspects of parenting.

Midwifery care during COVID 19 / Coronavirus
I have adapted how I work to ensure that I can still fully support women and their families, in person, during this difficult time. To find out more, or if you are affected by changes to NHS midwifery care during the Coronavirus outbreak and are looking to consider others options, please see here.
I work in Sussex and parts of Surrey. This includes Brighton, Worthing, Chichester, Horsham, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Eastbourne and the Gatwick area.
