Positive birth preparation

I offer hypnobirthing preparation in Brighton, Shoreham, Worthing and the surrounding areas of Sussex.

Antenatal preparation for birth and parenthood is about helping you feel ready to give birth to your baby and be the parent you want to be. The focus is on ensuring you feel confident, knowledgable and prepared. It combines giving you information about what happens and answering your questions with practicing techniques to help you in labour and beyond.

The hypnobirthing and antenatal sessions that I run are flexible. I will adapt the content to meet your needs and include what matters to you. This often includes preparing for breastfeeding and early parenting. I also provide courses designed for women who will be giving birth by caesarean.

It’s usually best if you and your partner and/or birth partner can prepare together, considering what’s important to you and focussing on helping you to achieve that.

Hypnobirthing is a type of self-hypnosis that is often at the centre of the antenatal sessions I offer. It’s best described as taking you to a state of deep relaxation. It’s a great way to alter how you perceive stress, fear and pain. Positivity around your body’s ability to birth your baby is an important part of hypnobirthing. Also important is learning about the birth process so that you understand what happens and how to help your body do what it needs to do. That’s why many women who hypnobirth describe having a labour that’s comfortable and even enjoyable!

Breastfeeding and the early days with your new baby

If this is your first baby, it’s likely that you want to prepare for the early weeks as a new parent. Feeding is usually the biggest topic relating to the postnatal period, so we often focus on this.

If you have had a baby before, you may not want as much preparation for having a newborn again. Or it may be that you want a bit of a recap.

A few options

I can provide a single session, for instance a hypnobirthing or breastfeeding preparation workshop. Or I can facilitate a short or full course over several sessions. All options are for you and your partner (and/or birth partner). In the comfort of your own home, at a time that suits you. Although timings can be flexible, for birth preparation it’s a good idea to complete the sessions early enough to have time to reflect on it all and practice the techniques. But it’s never too late!
